The Canada United Weekend Contest 

OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES AND REGULATIONS

Open to residents of Canada

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. By entering this Contest, entrants agree to abide by these official contest rules and regulations (the “Official Rules”). The decisions of the Sponsor with respect to all aspects of the Contest are final. The Contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with Twitter. Twitter is completely released of all liability by each entrant in this Contest.  Any questions, comments or complaints regarding the Contest must be directed to the Sponsorand not Twitter.
  • SPONSOR & CONTEST PERIOD: The Canada United Weekend Contest (the “Contest”) is sponsored by Royal Bank of Canada (the “Sponsor”). The Contest begins at 12:00:00 AM Eastern Time (“ET”) on August 28, 2020 and ends at 11:59:59 PM ET on August 30, 2020 (the “Contest Period”). 
  • ELIGIBILITY: To enter and be eligible to win, a person (the “Entrant”) must, at time of entry and throughout the Contest Period, be a legal resident of Canada who has reached the legal age of majority in his/her province or territory of residence. Specifically excluded from entering the Contest are: (i) employees, agents and representatives of the Sponsor, and the advertising and promotional agencies of the Sponsor, the independent contest organization, and each of their respective parent companies, subsidiaries and affiliates and any other individual(s), entity or entities involved in the development, production, implementation, administration or fulfilment of the Contest (collectively, the “Contest Parties”); and (ii) any member of any such person’s immediate family (regardless of where they live) or persons with whom they are domiciled (whether related to the person or not). In these Official Rules, “immediate family” includes mother, father, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, partner or spouse.   
  • HOW TO ENTER THE CONTEST: There are two (2) ways to enter the Contest, as follows:
    • ENTRY THROUGH THE CONTEST WEBSITE: To enter the Contest through the Contest website, you must first make a qualifying purchase during the Contest Period at an eligible local business and obtain and keep your receipt (collectively, an “Eligible Purchase”). To be eligible, a local business must either: (i) operate in Canada, subject to the excluded business categories set out in Schedule “A” (as determined by the Sponsor, in its sole and absolute discretion); or, (ii) be listed as a Canada United Partner within Schedule “B” (each, a “Local Business”). For greater certainty and the avoidance of any doubt, online purchases at an eligible Local Business during the Contest Period qualify as an Eligible Purchase. Notwithstanding the foregoing, purchases containing the following goods or services do not qualify as an Eligible Purchase: alcohol, tobacco, vaping and cannabis products, and lottery tickets. Next, visit GoCanadaUnited.ca/win (the “Contest Website”) and complete the Contest entry form with your full name, a valid email address, daytime telephone number (including area code) and postal code; check the box to signify your agreement and confirm that you are in compliance with these Official Rules; and confirm that you made an Eligible Purchase at an eligible Local Business in compliance with these Official Rules during the Contest Period (collectively, a “Submission”). When all required steps of the Submission process are complete, you will automatically be eligible to receive one (1) entry (a “Purchase Entry”) into the Prize draw (see rule 5). Limit of one (1) Purchase Entry per person per day and per email address for a maximum of three (3) Purchase Entries permitted during the Contest Period. A person may only use one (1) email address to enter the Contest. A Day is defined as starting at 12:00 AM and ending at 11:59 PM on the same day. 
  • BONUS ENTRIES: In order to receive a bonus entry, click on the Twitter Icon that will appear on the Contest Entry Confirmation page after submitting your Submission and sign in to your Twitter account. Next, tweet the pre-populated message with the Hashtags #CanadaUnited and #ContestEntry (the “Hashtags”) and a mention “@GoCanadaUnited” (a “Mention”) to receive one (1) Bonus entry (a “Bonus Entry”) (subject to compliance with these Official Rules). Limit of one (1) Bonus Entry per person per Day and per Twitter account for a maximum of three (3) Bonus Entries permitted during the Contest Period. In order to be eligible to receive a Bonus Entry, a participant must first complete and submit an eligible Submission, as set-out above. 
    Entrants who participate via Twitter are subject to Twitter's Terms of Service; these can be found at https://twitter.com/tos. The Sponsor is not responsible in any way for any decisions Twitter makes regarding the Entrant's account with Twitter. Anyone found to use multiple Twitter accounts to enter the Contest will be ineligible. Anyone found “spamming” by posting multiple updates or comments that are unrelated to the Contest discussion or by sending large numbers of duplicates to @GoCanadaUnited will be disqualified. For greater certainty and the avoidance of any doubt, multiple Tweets of the pre-populated message from the same Twitter account during a Day will not be accepted. 
    By participating in the Contest on Twitter, each Entrant hereby warrants and represents that any materials associated or submitted with his/her tweet (the “Entry Materials”): 
    1. does not contain images or likenesses of brands or products which are competitors of the Sponsor;
    2. is/are original to him/her and that the entrant has obtained all necessary rights in and to the Entry Materials for the purposes of entering such Entry Materials in the Contest;
    3. does not violate any law, statute, ordinance or regulation;
    4. does not contain any reference to or likeness of any identifiable third parties, unless consent has been obtained from all such individuals and their parent/legal guardian if they are under the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence; 
    5. will not give rise to any claims whatsoever, including, without limitation, claims of infringement, invasion of privacy or publicity, or infringe on any rights and/or interests of any third party; and
    6. is/are not defamatory, trade libelous, pornographic or obscene, and further that it will not contain, depict, include, discuss or involve, without limitation, any of the following: nudity; alcohol/drug consumption or smoking; explicit or graphic sexual activity, or sexual innuendo; crude, vulgar or offensive language and/or symbols; derogatory characterizations of any ethnic, racial, sexual, religious or other groups (including, without limitation, any competitors of Sponsor); that endorses, condones and/or discusses any illegal, inappropriate or risky behaviour or conduct; personal information of individuals; commercial messages, comparisons or solicitations for products or services other than products of Sponsor; any identifiable third party products, trade-marks, brands and/or logos, other than those of Sponsor; conduct or other activities in violation of these Official Rules; and/or any other materials that are or could be considered inappropriate, unsuitable or offensive, all as determined by the Sponsor in its sole and absolute discretion.
    The Sponsor and/or its promotional agency or designated content moderator (the “Reviewer”) reserves the right to screen all Entry Materials. Any Entry Materials that the Reviewer deems, in its sole and absolute discretion, to violate the terms and conditions set forth in these Official Rules are subject to disqualification. The Reviewer reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion at any time and for any reason, to remove any Entry Materials (or any part thereof) and/or to request an entrant to modify, edit and/or re-submit his or her Entry Materials (or any part thereof) in order to ensure that the Entry Materials comply with these Official Rules, or for any other reason. If such an action is necessary at any point during or after the Contest, then the Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to take whatever action it deems necessary based on the circumstances – including, without limitation, disqualifying the Entry Materials (and therefore the corresponding Bonus Entry and/or the associated entrant) – to help ensure that the Contest is being conducted in accordance with the letter and spirit of these Official Rules.
    IMPORTANT NOTE: Please retain your original Eligible Purchase receipt. The Sponsor has the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to request a proof of Eligible Purchase (the “Proof of Purchase”) from the Eligible Purchase associated with an Entrant’s Purchase Entry (see rule 3.A) if that specific Entry has been selected in the prize draw. Upon review, the Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to determine whether a purchase listed within an Entrant’s Proof of Purchase was made at an eligible Local Business and qualifies as an Eligible Purchase (including, without limitation, determining whether a local business is eligible based on the excluded business categories set out in Schedule “A”). The Proof of Purchase may be requested as part of the winner declaration and verification process and the Sponsor has the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to disqualify an Entrant if they cannot provide Proof of Purchase within the timeline specified and to the complete satisfaction of the Sponsor.  
    Purchase Entries and Bonus Entries must be submitted and received by 11:59:59 PM ET on August 30, 2020 (the “Contest Period End Date”) in order to be eligible in the Contest. The Sponsor will not be responsible for falsified or incomplete Purchase Entries or Bonus Entries, which will be void.
  1. MAIL-IN METHOD OF ENTRY: To receive an entry into the Contest without completing the requirements set out above for a Purchase Entry or Bonus Entry, on a plain piece of paper, legibly hand-print your full name, complete mailing address (including postal code), daytime telephone number (including area code), a valid email address, and write a minimum 50 word hand-written essay (the “Essay”) on “How do I support Local businesses?” and mail to: Canada United Weekend Contest, Dept. 4129 (Mail-In Entry), BOX 9500 Lakeshore West PO, Oakville, ON L6K 0G4 (collectively, a “Mail In Entry”). Mail-in Entries must be date stamped by the Contest Period End Date and received by the prize draw date (see rule 5). Limit of six (6) Mail-In Entries per person however there is a limit of one (1) Mail-In Entry per outer stamped mailing envelope and each submitted Essay must be unique, duplicates are not permitted.  The Sponsor takes no responsibility for any lost, stolen, delayed, illegible, damaged, misdirected, late or destroyed Mail-In Entries.
    Purchase Entries, Bonus Entries and Mail-In Entries will herein be collectively referred to as an “Entry” or “Entries”. Limit of six (6) Entries in the Contest per person (regardless of the method of entry)
    Without limiting the Important Note above, all Entries, Eligible Purchases, Submissions, Local Businesses, Twitter accounts, Essays and Entrants are subject to verification at any time and for any reason. The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to require proof of identity and/or eligibility (in a form acceptable to the Sponsor – including, without limitation, government issued photo identification): (i) for the purposes of verifying an Entrant’s eligibility to participate in this Contest; (ii) for the purposes of verifying the eligibility and/or legitimacy of any Entry, Eligible Purchase, Submission, Local Business, Twitter account, Essay and/or other information entered (or purportedly entered) for the purposes of this Contest; and/or (iii) for any other reason the Sponsor deems necessary, in its sole and absolute discretion, for the purposes of administering this Contest in accordance with the letter and spirit of these Official Rules.  Failure to provide such proof to the complete satisfaction of the Sponsor within the timeline specified by the Sponsor may result in disqualification in the sole and absolute discretion of the Sponsor. 
    BY SUBMITTING AN ENTRY, YOU AGREE THAT THE ENTRY (AND EACH INDIVIDUAL COMPONENT THEREOF – INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, SUBMISSION OR ENTRY MATERIALS) COMPLIES WITH ALL CONDITIONS STATED IN THESE OFFICIAL RULES. THE RELEASEES WILL BEAR NO LIABILITY WHATSOEVER REGARDING: (I) THE USE OF YOUR ENTRY (OR ANY COMPONENT THEREOF – INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY ENTRY MATERIALS); (II) PARTICIPATION IN ANY CONTEST-RELATED ACTIVITIES; (III) ANY USE, COLLECTION, STORAGE AND DISCLOSURE OF ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION; AND/OR (IV) IF DECLARED A WINNER, THE PRIZE (INCLUDING ANY USE OR MISUSE OF THE PRIZE). THE RELEASEES SHALL BE HELD HARMLESS BY YOU IN THE EVENT IT IS DISCOVERED THAT YOU HAVE DEPARTED FROM OR NOT OTHERWISE FULLY COMPLIED WITH ANY OF THESE RULES AND/OR THE TWITTER SOCIAL PLATFORM RULES (AS APPLICABLE). THIS RELEASE AND INDEMNITY SHALL CONTINUE IN FORCE FOLLOWING THE TERMINATION OF THE CONTEST AND/OR AWARDING OF ANY PRIZES. 
  1. PRIZES: There will be twenty-five (25) prizes (each a “Prize”) available to be won during the Contest Period. Each Prize consists of a cash prize of $10,000 (CAD) which will be electronically transferred from the Sponsor to the confirmed winner’s bank account, in accordance with the instructions provided by the Sponsor.

    The Prize must be accepted as awarded without substitution and is not transferable (except at the discretion of the Sponsor). Limit of one (1) Prize per person. No substitutions are permitted, except at Sponsor’s option. The Sponsor reserves the right to substitute any Prize in whole or in part with a prize or prize component(s) of equal or greater retail value. All characteristics and features of each Prize, except as otherwise explicitly stated above, are at the Sponsor’s sole and absolute discretion.  
  2.  PRIZE DRAW:  The Prize draw will be held at 10:00 AM ET in Oakville, ON on September 8, 2020 (the “Prize Draw Date”) from among all eligible Entries received by the Contest End Date (or date stamped by the Contest End Date and received by the Prize Draw Date for Mail-in Entries) to determine the twenty-five (25) selected entrants (each, a “Selected Entrant”). Odds of winning a Prize depend on the total number of eligible Entries received in accordance with these Official Rules. In the event there are fewer than twenty-five (25) eligible Entries in the Contest, the Prizes will be reduced based on the number of eligible Entries received. 
  3. WINNER SELECTION:  Each Selected Entrant will be contacted by email within three (3) business days of the Prize Draw Date (See rule 5). If a Selected Entrant: (a) cannot be reached within five (5) business days of the first notification; (b) fails to correctly answer the skill testing question (see rule 7); (c) fails to return the properly executed Release Form (defined below) within the specified time (see rule 7); (d) cannot accept (or is unwilling to accept) the Prize as awarded for any reason; (d) cannot provide Proof of Payment at the request of the Sponsor or otherwise comply with the Sponsor’s verification procedures (at the Sponsor’s discretion-see rule 3.A.) and/or (e) is determined to be in violation of these Official Rules (all as determined by the Sponsor in its sole and absolute discretion), then he/she will be disqualified and another Entrant will be randomly selected until such time as contact is made by email with a Selected Entrant  (in which case the foregoing provisions of this section shall apply to such newly Selected Entrant) or there are no more eligible Entries, whichever comes first. The Sponsor will not be responsible for failed attempts to contact a Selected Entrant.   
  4. PRIZE WINNER DECLARATION: To be declared a confirmed Prize winner, each Selected Entrant must answer correctly, without assistance of any kind, whether mechanical or otherwise, a time-limited mathematical skill testing question (the “Skill Testing Question”) to be administered by email within the Release Form (see below)Each Selected Entrant will then be required to complete and return within five (5) business days of notification the Sponsor’s Declaration and Release Form (the “Release Form”), which (among other things): (a) confirms compliance with these Official Rules; (b) acknowledges acceptance of the Prize as awarded; (c) releases the Contest Parties, Twitter, Inc., and each of their respective parent, subsidiary and affiliated companies, advertising and promotional agencies, and each of their respective officers, directors, employees, agents, representatives, successors and assigns (collectively, the “Releasees”) from any and all liability in connection with this Contest, the Selected Entrant’s participation therein and/or the awarding and use/misuse of the Prize or any portion thereof; and (d) agrees to the publication, reproduction and/or other use of the winner’s name, address, voice, statements about the Contest and/or photograph or other likeness without further notice or compensation, in any publicity or advertisement carried out by the Sponsor in any manner whatsoever, including print, broadcast or the Internet. Once the selected entrant has been deemed a confirmed winner (as per the above), a representative of the Sponsor will contact the Winner to collect the Winner’s financial institution number, transit number, and account number (“Banking Information”) in order to deposit the Prize directly into their bank account. The Winner must respond within ten (10) business days with the Banking Information or the Prize may be forfeited in its entirety and, if forfeited, nothing will be substituted in its place. At the request of the Sponsor, where relevant based on the method of entry associated with a Selected Entrant, a Proof of Purchase must be provided to the Sponsor within 72 hours of the request.  If the Proof of Purchase does not qualify as valid proof of payment made at an applicable Local Business, the Entry will be disqualified in accordance with rule 6, above. 
  5. GENERAL:  By entering the Contest, Entrants agree to abide and be bound by the Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor and/or independent contest organization with respect to all aspects of the Contest, which are final and not subject to appeal. Entrants who have not complied with the Official Rules are subject to disqualification. All Entries become the permanent property of the Sponsor and none will be returned. No correspondence will be entered into except with the Selected Entrants.
  6. The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial, territorial and municipal laws.
  7. The Releasees accept no responsibility for loss, damage or claims caused by or resulting from participating in the Contest or the acceptance/use of a Prize. By entering the Contest and/or accepting a Prize, each Entrant and/or winner consents to the use of his/her name, address, voice, statements about the Contest and/or photograph or other likeness without further notice or compensation, in connection with any publicity carried out by or on behalf of the Sponsor with respect to the Contest.
  8. The Releasees will not be liable for any failure of the Contest Website, or online, Internet, computer or other error of any kind, and do not assume any responsibility for incorrect or inaccurate capture of Entry information, technical malfunctions, human or technical error, printing errors, lost, delayed or garbled data or transmissions, omission, interruption, deletion, defect or failures of any telephone or computer lines or networks, computer equipment, software or any combination thereof.  If a dispute arises regarding who submitted an Entry, the Entry will be deemed to have been submitted by the authorized account holder of the email account associated with the Entry. The authorized account holder is defined as the natural person who is assigned the email address by an internet provider, online service provider, or other organization (e.g. business, educational institute, etc.) that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address. The use of an invalid email address will disqualify the entry. A Selected Entrant may be required to provide proof that he/she is the authorized account holder of the account associated with the selected Entry or proof of identity and/or eligibility for purposes of verifying the legitimacy of an Entry and/or for any other reason the Sponsor deems necessary, in its sole discretion, for the purposes of administering this Contest in accordance with these Official Rules.  Failure to provide such proof to the satisfaction of the Sponsor in a timely manner may result in disqualification in the sole discretion of the Sponsor.  The sole determinant of the time for the purposes of a valid entry in this Contest will be the Contest server machine(s).  In the event it is determined that an Entrant has entered or otherwise participated in the Contest in a fashion not sanctioned by these Official Rules and/or has submitted more than the number of Entries permitted by these Official Rules, the Entrant will be disqualified and all of the Entries submitted by the Entrant will be disqualified.  
  9. The Sponsor reserves the right, subject only to the consent of the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux, to terminate or suspend this Contest or to amend the Official Rules at any time and in any way, without prior notice, for any reason whatsoever. Without limiting the foregoing, if for any reason the Contest is not capable of running as originally planned, for example as a result of tampering or infection by computer virus, the Sponsor reserves the right, subject only to the consent of the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux, to cancel the Contest and conduct the Prize draw from all eligible Entries previously received by the date of cancellation of the Contest. The Sponsor and the independent contest organization shall not be held responsible for any problems, errors or negligence that may arise or occur in connection with the Contest.
  10. FOR QUEBEC RESIDENTS: Any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of a publicity contest may be submitted to the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux for a ruling. Any litigation respecting the awarding of a prize may be submitted to the board only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement.
  1. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of the Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of Entrants and the Sponsor in connection with the Contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with (i) the laws of the Province of Québec and the laws of Canada applicable therein in respect of residents of the Province of Québec, and (ii) the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada applicable therein in respect of residents of the other Canadian provinces/territories, without regard to conflicts of law principles. Any attempt by a participant or any other individual to deliberately damage any website or undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest could be a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, the Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. 
  2. In the event of any discrepancy or inconsistency between the terms and conditions of these English Official Rules and disclosures or other statements contained in any Contest-related materials, including, but not limited to: point of sale, print or online advertising, French rules; the terms and conditions of these English Official Rules shall prevail, govern and control to the fullest extent permitted by law.
  3. CONSENT TO USE PERSONAL INFORMATION: The Sponsor respects your right to privacy. By participating in this Contest, each Entrant expressly consents to the Sponsor, its agents and/or representatives, storing, sharing and using the personal information submitted only for the purpose of administering this Contest and Prize fulfillment, in accordance with the Sponsor’s privacy policy. To review the Sponsor’s privacy policy and more information regarding the manner of collection, use and disclosure of personal information by the Sponsor, please visit: http://rbc.com/privacysecurity /ca/our-privacy-policy.html. This section does not limit any other consent(s) that an individual may provide the Sponsor or others in relation to the collection, use and/or disclosure of their personal information.
